Robotics is already a massive industry, and the humanoid wave opens a huge but still uncertain range of opportunities.
5.1What exists: an already massive industry
According to the IFR, more than 500,000 industrial robots are installed every year and the global fleet exceeds several million units. Asia accounts for most installations, with China as the world's leading market.

5.2Humanoids: the range of projections
Goldman Sachs, Morgan Stanley and Citi publish widely diverging projections, from tens of billions to several trillion dollars in the long term. The gap shows the uncertainty: today's reality is still made of industrial pilots, but capital is flowing in.
5.3The structural drivers
- Demographics: ageing and labour shortages in Japan, Korea, China and Europe.
- Industrial reshoring: producing locally is only competitive when automated.
- 3D jobs: dirty, dangerous and dull.
5.4Opportunities by sector
- Logistics: a proven market, being robotised fast.
- Industry: automotive, electronics, assembly.
- Health: surgery, exoskeletons, care assistance.
- Agriculture and construction: under-automated sectors short of labour.
- Defence and robotaxis: two markets already accelerating.
5.5The jobs
Robotics engineer, AI specialist for robotics, integrator, fleet operator and supervisor, teleoperator, standards and certification expert. For social science and policy profiles: industrial policy, regulation of autonomous weapons, labour economics, defence.
Key takeaway for entrepreneurs
Do not build a general-purpose humanoid against Tesla and China: aim for a vertical where the task, the sector and movement data become a defensible advantage. The second market: integrating, maintaining, supervising and securing robots.
